About 50 Plus Computer Learning Center
The 50 Plus Computer Learrning Center (formerly known as the "Palatine SeniorNet Learning Center") opened in April, 1995 through the sponsorship of the Palatine Township Senior Citizens Council. It was established to teach computer skills to older adults (50 or over) in an understandable, enjoyable, and friendly way. Since opening, over 5,000 class participants have taken advantage of our program. Taught by all volunteers, we use PC compatible computers (with Windows 7) and MS Office 2007 software for teaching Word Processing, spreadsheet, Database, and PowerPoint.
We are a group of volunteers aged 50 and over offering computer classes specially designed for seniors. This program is offered by the Palatine Township Senior Citizens Council. Each student has their own computer. Each class is taught by a trained instructor, and coaches in each class provide individual attention and support. Course materials are prepared with seniors in mind, including clear step-by-step instructions, repetitive reinforcement and a slow, even pace. This makes the 50 Plus learning experience ideally suited to seniors learning to use the computer.
